The European Commission's 2026 ICT Standardisation Rolling Plan includes a dedicated section on Building Information Modelling. It reports growing BIM use by public authorities and private companies and identifies sensors as a mature data-acquisition technology.

Digital information becomes useful when it follows the building from design and trade coordination through construction, maintenance and future renovation. Sensors can provide temperature, humidity or energy data, but only when they are properly integrated and interpreted.

Owners and communities should request structured, updateable documentation from the outset. These tools support technical judgement; they do not replace it.
